The day started out with heavy rains. Skies were cloudy all day, and for a time, it looked as if the rain would return. It did for some of the runners heading to Canalside from the Southtowns. But it remained dry downtown, and the sun came out as the starting gun sounded for the Buffalo Broadcasters Association sixth annual Celebrity 5K Wednesday, June 25th.
About 200 runners took part in this year’s race. Jim Park of Buffalo was the top men’s finisher with a time of 17:29. Megan Caitagirone, whose hometown wasn’t listed, was the first woman to cross the finish line at 19:06.
Thanks to our primary sponsors, Russell’s Steaks Chops & More, the Law Offices of Steve Boyd/John Elmore and Folonari, for their major support of our race, plus the other food and drink vendors which donated refreshments and the TV and radio stations which publicized our run.
Also thanks to the many local broadcasters who participated in the run.
Most of all, we recognize Katie Morse, BBA board member and chair of the Celebrity 5K, for organizing the event and to all the volunteers who helped out.
