BUFFALO, N.Y. – WKBW-TV 7 Eyewitness News has hired Robert Heverling, a veteran news leader with a passion for community development, as news director, effective December 1. Mr. Heverling is presently assistant news director at WOIO-TV in Cleveland and has been a news director in Little Rock, Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas and Duluth, Minnesota.

“It’s remarkable what’s happening in Buffalo,” said Heverling. “I met so many talented people during my visit to the station and they have so much to offer to the WKBW audiences. Those folks know something good is happening. It’s like they think WKBW is paralleling Buffalo’s renaissance.  I believe them and I want to be a part of it.”

“We are thrilled to have Rob agree to lead the 7 Eyewitness News team,” said Michael Nurse, vice president and general manager for WKBW-TV. “He has a solid combination of hands-on news director experience in multiple markets and was a news leader in Cleveland. He also embraces the renaissance happening in our region and at Channel 7. These are very exciting times at WKBW under Scripps and Rob is the ideal leader for our ongoing turnaround.” said Nurse.

Mr Heverling added, “When you live in cities like Detroit, Cleveland, and Buffalo, if you allow yourself, you fall in love them. When you get to know these rust belts you get to know their beauty. No doubt these places have problems. But these places are authentic, and it’s that authenticity that attracts me to them, attracts me to their potential.”

Prior to joining WKBW-TV, Heverling’s experience includes assistant news director, WOIO-TV, Cleveland, news director, KARK-TV Little Rock, Arkansas, assistant news director, KDLH-TV, Duluth, Minnesota, executive producer, KCNC-TV, Denver, Ohio, executive editor, WKYC-TV, Cleveland, night news manager, KTHV-TV, Little Rock, and weekend producer, KATV-TV, Little Rock.

Robert along with his wife, Laura and two daughters are looking forward to getting to know the Western New York area and to lead the 7 Eyewitness News Team!
