The move was announced yesterday in staff meetings at the ABC affiliate.
In a move first reported by the Buffalo News, WKBW-TV’s general manager Michael Nurse (pictured below) was released from his role on Tuesday morning. Additionally, Steve Cuccia and Erin Colvin-Collins, general sales manager and local sales manager, respectively, were let go from the station as well.
Nurse, who had been in the general manager role since 2013, spent 17 years at the station. He joined as the station’s Vice President of Sales in 2002 and took over at the station’s top role after Bill Ransom’s retirement. Before coming to Western New York, Nurse had been Vice President & General Manager at multiple stations along the east coast.
Cuccia, according to his LinkedIn, joined the station under Granite Broadcasting, the station’s previous owner, in 1995. Colvin-Collins is a sales veteran in the Buffalo market having worked at various stations. Both took over their roles in 2013, a year before Scripps took over the station.
The same report from the Buffalo News names Michael Barbetta as the interim station manager. Barbetta is from Cincinnati, where the E.W. Scripps Company’s corporate offices are located.
