Ben Bass, a veteran Buffalo radio producer and music host, has died.
Ben worked at WJYE, 96.1FM and 97 Rock during his career and was a beloved member of the local amateur radio community. He was a BBA member and strong supporter of our organization.
“(Ben) would always volunteer to work the Christmas shift so others could spend the holiday with their families,” former WJYE program director Joe Chille wrote of Ben. “RIP Ben. Your unselfishness and professionalism will not be forgotten.”
“I worked with Ben at Niagara University (Media Resources),” wrote Richard Previte on Ben’s Facebook wall. “Ben was very knowledgeable, pleasant, and funny…and knew his broadcast and music history very well.”
“(Ben) loved sharing his knowledge of the history of Buffalo broadcasting, and he possessed a deep understanding of the underlying physics and principles of radio and TV,” Jim Seward of Buffalo State shared. “He was a mentor and friend to so many, and truly ‘one of the good guys.'”
The funeral will take place Monday, February 10th, 9:30am, at the Mesnekoff Funeral Home located 8630 Transit Road, East Amherst.
