Retired radio news broadcaster Albert “Del” Monaco has died at the age of 85.
A Buffalo native, Monaco pursued a career in broadcasting following his service in the Navy at the end of World War II. Using the on-air name Del Monaco, he worked at radio stations in Arizona, California, Michigan and Iowa before returning to his hometown in 1985.
Monaco served as news manager at WYRK, 106.5FM until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
Even in retirement, Monaco revived his radio persona at an assisted-living center where he resided, reading morning announcement on a public address system. He also served as emcee for social events.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Infant of Prague Church in Cheektowaga on April 26th.
