Lance Diamond, a member off the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, died Sunday, January 4, 2015.
Diamond is best known as an R&B performer. But he is remembered in the Buffalo radio community for his longtime Saturday evening music show on on the old WJYE, 96.1FM (now WMSX).
Reports say Diamond missed a scheduled New Year’s Eve performance at Milkie’s on Elmwood Avenue. Family members said he was being treated for heart complications at the Buffalo General Medical Center.
Diamond’s singing career began in 1970. According to an article in the Buffalo News, he toured nationally with such famous acts as James Brown and the Righteous Brothers. Diamond was inducted into the Music Hall in 1992.
A wake for Lance will be held Saturday, January 10, 2014 at 11am at Kleinhans Music Hall, followed by a funeral service at 12noon. The public is invited. A musical celebration in his memory will take place at Kleinhans Friday night from 6 to 8pm, featuring an appearance by the Goo Goo Dolls. Again, the public is invited.
