Following the news about Brian Meyer’s upcoming departure from WBFO-FM at the end of March, the station has named Dave Rosenthal as the Senior Director of News and Public Affairs. Rosenthal will begin his new position on April 1, 2018. According to the press release, Rosenthal will be responsible for the news department at WBFO along with WNED-TV’s public affairs programming and digital media projects.

In 2016, Rosenthal was named Managing Editor of “Great Lakes Today,” a regional journalism collaboration between public WNED | WBFO, WXXI in Rochester, and ideastream in Cleveland, Ohio. Great Lakes Today has produced pieces that have aired on NPR and public radio stations across the country including in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

John Grant, Senior Program Officer at WNED | WBFO, said in a statement, “Dave has done an outstanding job as managing editor of Great Lakes Today and we look forward to his leadership of WBFO and other news and public affairs activities.”

Rosenthal came to Western New York after serving as the Senior Editor of Investigations and Enterprise for the Baltimore Sun. His leadership led to national awards and honors including the Clark Mollenhoff Award for Excellene in Investigative Reporting, the Investigative Reporters & Editors’ Breaking News Award, and more. He also previously worked at the Roanoke Times and World-News.

In the press release, it was announced that WBFO is also currently searching for a News Director, who will directly report to Rosenthal.

Spectrum News has recently added two new reporters to their roster.

Maura Christie is a graduate of Niagara University and was promoted to reporter in February of 2018. Before that, Christie was a News Assistant and started in the role in June of 2017. While at Niagara, Christie interned at Spectrum News, WIVB-TV, and the German Citizen Newspaper.

Fadia Patterson arrived in Buffalo in January of 2018. Patterson come from WTVQ-TV in Lexington, Kentucky and has also worked at WEHT-TV in Evansville, Indiana, WTVX/WWHB-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida, and City TV 3 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Patterson is a graduate of Florida State University and earned a Master’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.
