Here are some of the latest updates from the Western New York news scene:

WKBW is adding a new anchor from down the Thruway. Ali Touhey will join the ABC affiliate in January as an anchor and reporter. In the report from Talkin’ TV, WKBW General Manager Mike Nurse said that no staff are being replaced as a result of this hire, which leads to speculation that WKBW will begin a weekend morning newscast in 2016.

Courtney Helinski left WGRZ to join WNED as a pledge producer in October. As a Canisius College graduate, she began at WGRZ as a production assistant and quickly rose to become a director.

Former WIVB sports director Steve Vesey has landed a job at WFMJ in his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio anchoring their weekend morning newscast. Vesey was released by WIVB in August when the station decided to go with a completely new sports team.
