November has been a busy month for a trio of WBFO-FM staffers and an anchor from Spectrum shifting into new roles.

New Promotions at WBFO. Reporter Angelica Morrison (center) has been promoted to Managing Editor-Special Projects. Morrison joined WBFO as a reporter and project coordinator for the Great Lakes Regional Journalism Collaboration in April 2016. The Buffalo State graduate has worked in print and television in Utica with WKTV-TV and the Observer-Dispatch. She has also worked for local papers including the Lockport Union Sun and Journal, The Niagara Gazette, and The Buffalo News.

BBA Board Member Avery Schneider¬†(right) is now the station’s Assistant News Director. Schneider rejoined the station in 2014 as a Program Host/Reporter and later added on Administrative Assistant duties. Since February 2017, Schneider has been the Lead Reporter for the Health & Wellness Desk. As a University at Buffalo alum, he interned WBFO-FM and covered the crash of Flight 3407 in Clarence. He then served a stint as a part-time reporter in 2010.

Omar Fetouh¬†(left) is now the station’s Online Editor/Program Host. Fetouh started his work in radio as an intern with WNED-AM in 2001 and started his full-time role with WBFO-FM in 2009. He is also been part of the station’s “Behind the Bench” segment focusing on the Buffalo Sabres with Bill Hoppe.

Reporter and anchor Katie Gibas is leaving the anchor desk but not Spectrum News Buffalo.

Gibas is now the station’s Nightside Executive Producer. She had been on the weekend anchor desk for the past four years and a reporter since 2009, when she joined the station. She fills the role vacated by BBA Board Member Steve Marth, who was promoted to Assistant News Director earlier this year. She previously worked in Northern and Central New York for six years before returning to WNY.

Gibas won the New York State Associated Press Award for Best Anchor/Reporter (left) in June 2018 and has also been honored for “Excellence in Videojournalism” by the Syracuse Press Club in 2013.

Gibas is a graduate of Syracuse University and also holds an MBA.
